Fruit: a treasure of vitamins

Fruit is complete, healthy and low calorie food; it is rich in nutritive content- minerals and vitamins.

We should have it properly because it provides us with the most part of the nutrients we need. Of course, we have to keep in mind that it contains a high percentage of simple sugar (fructose) which makes fruit the only type of food naturally sweet. It also contains vitamins, mineral salts, fibers and a very high percentage of water which gives the fruit a good hydrating power extremely useful during the hot season or in case of long sport activity. Fruit antioxidant features are well know-it protects our organism from free radicals and it helps to prevent cancer.

A distinction should be made between fresh and dried fruit. The former, whose consumption is strictly recommended, has got a low calorie content-except for a few kinds, and a really low fat content. The latter, on the other hand, is poor in water, but it has got a high caloric content, it is rich in fat and polyunsaturated fat acids and vitamins; it has to be consumed regularly but sparingly. Among the kinds of fruit with the richest nutritive content we may mention apples, which are good for our heart and protect our organism from the inflammation and strengthen the immune system. The kiwis prevent the cell ageing, cancer, and cardiac diseases and control the blood pressure; the blueberries control the percentage of cholesterol in the blood and the oranges provide the organism with plenty of vitamins and prevent the oxidative stress slowing down the heart ageing. Also bananas (rich in potassium) and grapes (rich in magnesium, folic acid and glucose as well, so be careful) have good nutritive content, but they have to be eaten sparingly because of their high sugar content. When should we eat fruit? We should eat it in the morning or as a snack. After the meal it activates a fermentative process which slows the digest down and provokes bloating. The last piece of advice: you should have season fruit– it is tastier, healthier for the organism and more ecologically friendly.
