Cleansing our face and the neck properly every day is something important we neglect too often.
Why is facial cleansing so important?
First of all, when you cleanse your skin you remove the dirt and the impurities.
Dirt is make up, shed cells of the stratum corneum ( the so called dead skin cells), smoke, pollution and dust, which our body gets by doing even the simplest daily housework.
You should cleanse your face twice a day in the morning when you get up (it should be lighter just to balance overnight oil production) and in the evening before you go to bed: our skin will breath better. Cleansing your skin pores properly means preventing bacterial proliferation so that your skin will be glowing, radiant, and ready to absorb the cream, the make up and all the active ingredients we are going to apply.
What products should we use?
You should figure out your skin type to choose the most suitable cleansing product: normal skin (usually young girls, who don’t usually show blemishes, have this type of skin) needs moisturizing and nourishing products; dry skin needs products which are oily and rich in nutrients. For oily skin, opt for astringent products.
Acne prone skin requires specific and gentle cleanser in order to avoid more breakouts and the production of an excess of sebum to balance a harsh purifying action (you should ask your dermatologist for advice).
Sensitive skin needs decongestant and soothing products. For matures skins, when age spots and wrinkles show up, we should choose anti aging and moisturizing products.
We are going to deal with combination skin to choose the best option in a wide range of offer.
Once we have figured out your skin type, we have to start with eye cleansing. We have to choose a specific product to remove the make up. If you use water proof make up you should opt for a two phase make up remover as the oily component has a deeper and more complete action.
Then we have to cleanse the face and the neck: green light to cleansing milk, foaming or non foaming detergents, cleansing balms, micellar water, gel. Don’t use bar soaps and face wipes regularly as they are too aggressive and they don’t perform a correct cleansing action.
Apply the cleanser with light pats to remove all the impurities and then rinse evenly with lukewarm water. You don’t have to rinse if you use micellar water because it is a water based cleanser which cleans your face efficiently without affecting the hydrolipidic film which protects the skin. It is suitable for all types of skins, in particular for those which are very sensitive. If you a bit lazy, this is perfect for you because you don’t have to rinse it away. It is good in the morning because it gives your face a fresh and glowing look.
After you have cleansed and dried your skin well, apply an alcohol free toner with a cotton pad, patting gently with your fingertips to make it be absorbed completely and to stimulate the blood circulation and the tissue oxygenation. It also balances the skin Ph which may vary after the cleansing.
Now it is the moment, to apply your day cream (preferably with sunscreen) or your night cream or serum (a product which boosts the action of the treatments because it is made up of smaller particles which can penetrate deeply into the skin), and a moisturizing eye cream if you are over 25-28.
After all these steps we feel cleaner, fresher and more relaxed!
For a complete and effective skincare treatment you should go to a beauty center regularly to have a deep cleansing facial with a scrub and a face mask. Your beautician will give you plenty of advice according to your skin type.
And finally, the last piece of advice about the composition of the products. Opt for those manufacturers which use organic, natural and safe components. It is a wise choice for your body and for the environment.
So, please remember that a good cleansing treatment is the first step to take care or our skin and ourselves!
